My New Media Class - So Far

There are few new technologies that can be considering new media. One of the biggest one is probably the World Wide Web and all the networks within it. Billions of people visit the Internet on a daily basis. People can interact with each other within seconds across networks (AIM, virtual worlds, & social networks). The Internet is very important to new media. It allows easy access to all kinds of information and information can be easily changed or added. Like in the reading "IBM Learning Programs Get a 'SecondLife'" it talks about how people who are employed can change information about themselves and even their avatars. Their avatars can have anything they want but when it comes to some kind of serious meeting with the online avatars you can easily change their clothing and other things to make them less distracting to other people. In the article "What's Next? Your Future in Social Networking" Chuck Hamilton said "Virtual worlds are quickly becoming a powerful tool and a driving force to what many are calling the 3D Internet – one that is open, immersive, innovative, and social." It also shows New Media become so important. New media is enhancing old media in both positive and negative ways. On a positive side, people are improving their quality of life. With new technologies, people are able to work on tasks faster and effectively. On negative part, people take advantage of new technologies and take easy way out of everything, and being lazy.

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

Now a day, I think social networks and virtual worlds became one of the many necessities for online users. People use social networks and virtual worlds to communicate with others and expand self-interest. A virtual world is very useful in our daily life. A person can meet someone just by adding a friend on Facebook or MySpace and talk or interact by sitting in front of a computer screen. Business people use virtual worlds to training their employees, and get information through connection of another worker. According to the article “IBM Learning Programs Get a Second Life" by Ed Frauenheim, he shows us corporate like “IBM” are using virtual worlds to their employees’ training. It definitely helps new employees’ shares ideas with others before their first day of work.
There are some beneficial factors to using virtual worlds. People are allow to expand their imagination and explore places things you want to do in real life. People are free to do so much with their dreams in the virtual world then in reality.
Of course everything has a dark side, include of virtual world. The main thing about them is they can be fake. People should careful about who they meet and what kinds of information share each other. If we met the wrong person via the internet that might make people go through the wrong way or bad situation.
I believe that in the future virtual worlds will evolve more in our life. Everybody will sit in front of their computer at home to work in stead of working outside. Such as students course, people can stay at home and submit their work online when they done.

Twitter: Discussion

Before I register a twitter, I think this is unnecessary since I already have facebook.
Now, I feel use twitter very fun, looks like playing text message. I can search the newest events, and send it to my friends. You can see what is your friends doing right now, and rely it as soon as possible. Although People update very frequency, but if their tweet attractive to people, they will still following them.
How does twitter discussion compare to Bb discussion? To an in-class discussion?
The similarity between twitter and Bb discussion is both of them use character limit, and make them simple. Only let users to rely to the posts. The difference between twitter and in-class discussion is that Bb discussion Board allows members of the class to communicate with one another while not requiring all members to be online at the same time, and limit to people to see the posts. Twitter’s tweet can let everyone see your post, and everyone can be your followers. you also can rely anyone's tweets. very interesting.

People benefit because more useful social experiences can be open to them. Such as Social Networking provide people a new way to do an advertisement by email, banner, ucc video clip; people are able to easy to gather a wide and variety information via internet; people are able to have collaboration the work via web based technology which is wiki; people also are able to communicate not only from local people but also people from all over the world.; beside of those, people can shopping on line and gather more information about products and purchase the products via online shopping sites. Checking Out Some Social Networking Sites

The 4 Social networking sites that I checked out were, Facebook, hi5, MySpace, and Friendster. MySpace was the very first social network I joined. My friend told me to join it, so that she could make me "a friend on MySpace". I really got into at one point because it made it easier for me to quickly keep in touch with friends and share photos. And join groups comment on their friends’ profiles or even make new friends. Facebook was mainly created for college students, but it was quickly made available to anyone who had an e-mail address. MySpace and Facebook are two very similar sites, but they are both very popular for a good reason, because it they are so addicting! I'm sure many students waste countless hours on Facebook while they should be studying! Friendster has been around since 2002 and it is considered to be one of the first social networking sites that got popular. I never had a Friendster account, but i created one a few days ago to check it out. It seems to have similar features to Facebook and Myspace. I used hi5 because my friends tell me to use it.
