Blogs vs. Wikis

Both blogs and wikis have a huge role in the importance of new media, and both are social networking. For wikis, we can change the information that we post on the website. We can change on what other says. Other people can change on what we say. Wikis is more about the fact than personal stuff. For blogs, it’s more private. We can post whatever we want into our own blogs. Other people can only view and leave their comments in the blog. I can lock my blog with my password and only my friend can see it.
Convergence is very important in today’s networked world. Communication is essential in today's world, and nowadays with technological convergence, it has become easier for people to communicate with others. People are able to access to the webpage, blog and wiki, to collect and exchange the information, people can share, communicate with people from all over the world. The information could be delivered to all over the world immediately.
Collaborative blogs are becoming more and more popular. Blogs can be used to share files, pictures, and even movies. Somebody can leave comments on your post, or you can follow somebody's blog. Also, blogs can be used for collaboration among group project or team work.
There have the new feature, called “flagged revision”, that from the “Wikipedia to Limit changes to Articles on People” by Noam Cohen, this article related to wiki, people can providing sources for facts, then edit to wiki. However, any type of thing for sharing ideas and performing collaborative assignments, wikis should be able to do.

Old vs. New

We distinguish new media from old media by how easily the information can be processed, change and interpret that information. Old Media are things such as television, radio, and newspapers. If you want to know the news, you would have to wait for the newspaper to come out or wait till morning or evening for to watch the news on television. If you want to listen to music, you have to buy CDs. But New Media is the opposite. My space, wiki, and facebook are examples of New Media, such as blogs and newspaper websites allow you to read your cities news wherever you are, as long as you are connected to the internet. New Media also can download the music from the website. If you think a post on a blog is a good read, you can post a comment. If you think a video on YouTube is terrible, you can post your opinion. New Media gives everyone who wants to express themselves a voice to do so.

What is new media?

New Media is an evolution from Old Media. New media also called social media; the new media are internet-based (Web 2.0) technologies that collectively are characterized by the 5 c's: communication, collaboration, community, creativity, and convergence. Wiki's, Blogs, Face book, MySpace, etc. These are examples of the types of new media that is popular right now. The difference between Old Media and New Media is that newspapers and magazines are all turned paperless, we can now go onto the internet and we are able to read from there.
New Media is easy and fast to use than the Old Media. Based on the article, “Who Needs a TV? I’m Watching on a Laptop,” people begin to watch TV on their laptops instead of television. New Media is mainly connected with network. People go online to download songs, watch dramas, chatting with others, doing research, and so on. New media make people feel more convenience. People can easy to carry them to travel around such as ipod instead of walkman; laptop instead of desktop; an electronic dictionary instead of a cover paper dictionary; digital camera instead of general camera; etc.
